With summer in full swing, the month of July can seem to zip by. Summer is the time to put your worries aside, relax and enjoy your family and friends. But still, some chores must be done. Keep on top of them, and you’ll still have plenty of time for beer and barbecues. With trips to the pool, cookouts, bike rides, vacations and other activities, July’s checklist helps to balance all the fun while keeping up with your home’s summer maintenance routine.

  • Foundation - check for cracks, water or mold

  • Garage - de-clutter & donate

  • Fences - repair, paint & seal as needed

  • Artificial plants - clean. Click here for a how-to.

  • HVAC: vacuum, dust and possibly change filter.

  • Garbage disposal - crush ice (sharpens), baking soda and citrus fruit rinds (freshens).

  • Range hood fan - check & clean. Use a degreaser from an auto parts store mixed with hot water. Let the filter sit for a few minutes, rinse it off.

  • Plumbing - check for leaks on supply lines to sinks and toilets.

  • Fire Extinguisher - place near kitchen and check charge.

  • Water heater - drain, flush out & refill

Summer maintenance can be intimidating, especially to newer home owners who haven’t had to change out filters, manage a lawn, or check all the nooks and crannies of the house. However, many of these tasks can be easy and fast so get out there and start checking off boxes on your summer checklist!
