When buying a home, most people probably first think of the financial responsibility. Don’t let yourself forget, however, about the time and labor that home ownership also requires. Keeping up with regular home maintenance tasks will keep you from future headaches and wasted money.  Do what works for you and your schedule, and as long as all these things get accomplished, your home will be happy for years and years to come.

In order to maximize your efficiency, you can create a home maintenance calendar for yourself. Whether online or on paper, you can jot down small, regular tasks for each weekend and not be too overwhelmed. Here is this months list of tasks:

  • Garage - de-clutter & donate
  • Artificial plants - clean. Click here for a how-to.
  • HVAC: vacuum, dust and possibly change filter.

  • Garbage disposal - crush ice (sharpens), baking soda and citrus fruit rinds (freshens).

  • Range hood fan - check & clean. Use a degreaser from an auto parts store mixed with hot water. Let the filter sit for a few minutes, rinse it off.

  • Plumbing - check for leaks on supply lines to sinks and toilets.

  • Fire Extinguisher - place near kitchen and check charge.

What do you do to keep your home in tip-top shape? Do you have any hacks for doing these tasks as efficiently and effectively as possible?

Check back with us each month for suggestions to keep your home in top shape.
